About First American Home Buyers Protection
First American Home Buyers Protection might be more commonly known as First American Home Warranty. Its parent company, The First American Corporation, can trace its roots back to 1889 when it was originally founded by Charles Edward Parker in Santa Ana, CA under the moniker Orange County Title Company. First American found much success in Orange County during this time. In 1960 they looked to expand their clientele further and established their second branch in Ventura, CA. With this expansion, the company also officially changed its name to First American Title Insurance. Over the years, First American began expanding its services to include real estate tax services and eventually introduced their home warranty services known as First American Home Buyers Protection, in 1984. The company’s headquarters are now located in Santa Rosa, CA. First American employs over 850 associates. They provide coverage in 38 states (including the District of Columbia) and serves more than 590,000 customers. In 2019, First American was named to the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list for the fourth consecutive year.
First American Home Buyers Protection offers home warranty services. A home warranty is typically a one-year renewable service contract designed to protect a homeowner from unexpected, costly repairs on home systems and appliances. According to the company’s website, 63% of customers file at least one claim each year. As a result, First American has saved their clients over $180 million in covered repairs and replacements last year alone. With a homeowner warranty from First American customers can expect unlimited service calls from qualified and prescreened service providers as well as guaranteed replacement if it is determined that your covered system or appliance cannot be repaired. Service requests can be placed via phone or online with First Americans 24 hour service department 7 days a week.
First American offers two plans for home warranty protection. The Basic Plan covers essential appliances including refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens, cooktops and more with rates starting at $28 per month*. The Premier Plan covers everything in Basic Plan plus major home systems including heaters, plumbing, electrical, water heaters and more costing customers $42.50 per month*. (*Pricing varies based on location so a quote request is necessary in order to obtain accurate cost.) Customers can also choose a specific additional coverage item to add to their service contract including central air conditioning (electric) $9 per month, additional refrigeration $4 per month, pool/spa equipment $15 per month, well pump $7 per month.
